Making a Difference

Donate as you Decorate

I believe in leaving a place or situation in a better state than I found it. It has always been my mission in life.

In all my endeavours & activities I have tried to “do good”, & “be honest”, which, as it appears, isn’t a good business model. My life has twisted & turned, & now I find myself eventually doing the thing I always wanted to do, being an artist. But creating art just for profit & selling myself, just feels wrong to me & has emphasised my uncomfortable relationship with money.

One day that view changed when someone pointed out all the good that money can do. What if, as well as making a living, I can make a difference to others? I, of course, need to make a wage, feed my family, save to make changes to our home so that is more accessible for my daughter & provide care that she needs. But I also have an inner need to do more: for animals, for people & for the planet in a wider sense.

To that end I have decided that I will share some of my income with the causes that I believe in. For each piece that is commissioned, or purchased from the shop, a set amount will be sent to the charity or organisation indicated. I am not messing around with telling you % of profits or revenue, which can be meaningless & misleading. I will show the exact amount that will be donated on the sale of each piece.

I do not believe that I am on my own in this mindset & as such I invite you to help me to make a difference… & make the World a nicer place though “art with heart”.

Causes I believe in & will donate to:

Stray Aid

Stray Aid’s mission is to rescue, re-unite or re-home the lost, abused or unwanted dogs found on the streets in the North East of England.

Sheep Sancruary

Sheep Sanctuary is set in the heart of the North Yorkshire moors, near to Whitby. They love & care for sheep, cows, pigs, goats, alpacas, donkeys, geese, turkeys, hens & more.

Wild Justice

Wild Justice stands up for wildlife using the legal system & seeking changes to existing laws. They are nature conservationists, primarily in the UK, who provide advocacy to make UK laws, policies and practices more wildlife-friendly. They make use of the UK legal system to further nature and conservation objectives, and encourage public participation in conservation issues.

PDSA (People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals)

The PDSA is there to care for the pets of people in need by providing free veterinary services to their sick & injured animals, and promoting responsible pet ownership practices.

Ehlers-Danlos Support UK

Ehlers-Danlos Support UK (EDS UK) was set up in 1987 to support, advise & inform those living with Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS). They represent & support people with EDS. They work to minimise the impact of EDS by making its diagnosis, treatment & management accessible to everyone when they need it.

British Heart Foundation

Their vision is a world free from the fear of the heart & circulatory disease. They raise money to research cures & treatments, so we can beat heartbreak forever.

Cancer Research UK

They pioneer research to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Humane Society International / UK

Humane society International / UK is a leading force for animal protection, with active campaigns to protect British wildlife, to reduce & replace animal use in scientific research & product testing, to expose & stop the sale of fur, and to reduce the number of animals suffering on farms.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)

PETA is the largest animal rights organisation in the world with more than 6.5 million members & supporters. PETA opposes speciesism, a human supremist world view, and focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in laboritorites, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, & in the entertainment industry. They also work on a plethora of other issues including the cruel killing of rodents, birds, & other animals who are often considered pests, as well as cruelty to domesticated animals. PETA work through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement & protest campaigns.

Soi Dog

Soi Dog Foundation (Soi Dog) was established in 2003 in Phuket, Thailand, to help the street dogs ad cats who had no-one else to care for them. They provide a humane & sustainable solution to managing the stray population & address their medical needs.

In addition, I will continue to help the planet as much as I can by encouraging conscientious consumerism, vegan-ism and making sure that my resources, as far as possible, are environmental friendly, animal product and cruelty free.
